GOOD WEATHER FOR DUCKS AND HONEYMOONERS IN BRISBANE AND SURROUNDS [ More Items ]
Seeing there is nothing happening much today in racing and it's good weather for honeymooners, I'll let readers have a glimpse of my besotted bride Denise and I on our wedding day which was on Stradbroke Day 1976. Naturally we waited until after the Stradbroke to get married. We have had three honeymoons so far and she has put the acid on me for a fourth, but I've told her "the websites have to get priority", so there could be a divorce looming. Putting this photo up publicly will also stop some of the groupies hanging around - hopefully.

South East Queensland racing has been decimated all week and that pattern looks like continuing into tomorrow and next week. Ipswich and the Caloundra meetings tonight were both called off early today and rain continues to fall all along the Queensland coast.

Hence the main focus of punting tomorrow will be down south at the Canterbury and Sandown Lakeside meetings.

Racing Queensland Handicapping staff haven’t sent the scaled weights through for Doomben tomorrow, so I can’t put them up unfortunately.

Brisbane Racing Assistant Track Manager Sean Bridges advised the website late this afternoon that the Doomben track is a heavy 10. Sean advised that jockeys Ryan Wiggins and Chris Munce galloped a horse each over the track this afternoon and in front of stewards and the two jockeys opinion was the track was safe. “So at this stage the meeting is going ahead, but that is obviously dependent on how much rain falls later this afternoon and tonight”, Sean said.

Brad Tamer from Tattsbet advises the following jackpots are happening tomorrow with that entity –

Today on www.brisbaneracing.com.au I preview Sandown Lakeside Race 5, on www.sydneyracing.com.au I look at the race which contains a future topline racehorse that is appearing at the meeting, whilst on www.melbourneracing.com.au Tim Hickman looks at Sandown.

Galilee has sent this report through on Donald racing tomorrow. There’s nothing as exciting in punting as going looking for a duck at Donald. Galilee wrote:

Last week – Reachfar ran alright finishing on for fifth but this doesn’t pay the rent. At Morphettville this week I just cannot get enthused at all.

If it is okay with readers what I have done is go to Victoria and the meeting at Donald on Saturday. There is a Darren Weir horse in there that ran at Morphettville last start for a fifth behind Meshmaker on the 7th January, 2012. I refer to Zoned In.

I have no idea what price the horse will be and also there are three dual acceptors in the race, one of which has already come out. So if the field falls away further, Zoned In will more than likely be no respectable odds.

I mention this for at the time of going to press I am at a disadvantage as to starters and pricing and if the field falls right away then there’s probably no value.

But back to Zoned In and it is a pity Darren Weir couldn’t have found a race at Morphettville for him, perhaps races 4 and 6 may have been his go over 1600 which he won at his second last start, but had moved up to 1800. Obviously Darren wants him over some ground as this race at Donald is over 2000m.

At his last appearance here the beaten margin you will see is 7.5L. In that race Zoned In had no luck whatsoever and was boxed badly mid field. On seeing daylight late, he was coming into the race very well when it was all over.

Billy Egan is on this time, taking over from apprentice Jacob Rule [2kg] so Zoned In goes up 2.5kgs on his last start.

I pray that the field holds and we get some respectable odds as I feel Zoned In is ready to strike. I like backing Darren Weir horses and he has great success when he has one right as I feel Zoned In is.

Selection:  Donald Races:  Race 4 – 2 Zoned In

Good luck.

Anthony Collins has sent this preview through of Albion Park harness racing tomorrow night and it reads:

A great night of Harness Racing is promised once again at Albion Park this Saturday when the Albion Park Harness Racing Club conducts a strong eight event card in the midst of potentially challenging weather.

A handy line up of pacers is engaged in each race however the seventh event of the night has an exceptionally talented field nominated to start.

The 1660 metre event is the Coca Cola 3YO Pace for C0 and better assessed pacers of the younger class, programmed to start at 8.10pm.

Western Mail (Western Edition), a pacer which has shown star potential throughout his two year old season, has drawn well in barrier one.

The Bill Crosby trained gelding has been slightly disappointing in his two starts as a three-year-old which have resulted in him being defeated as an odds on favourite on each occasion.

In his last start as a two year old, Western Mail sailed to a clear cut victory in the QBRED Triad Final, in a brilliant 1.55.9 mile rate at Albion Park.

The win in the Triad made it a feature race double for Western Mail, as four starts prior he was victorious in the QBRED Breeders Classic at the Gold Coast.

Western Mail has a record of eight victories and two minor placings from twelve starts.

Placed in the top two in each of his seven starts to date, Terror Time (Western Terror), has drawn in barrier five for trainer Shannon Price, who has two runners competing in the race.

Terror Time successfully contended the 2011 Garrards Nursery Pace series at Albion Park, taking a clean sweep of his heat and the main feature.

In the final Terror Time narrowly defeated the smart Soho Valencia in a mile rate of 2.00.3 for the 2138 metre event, which contributed over $94,000 to the talented three-year-olds earnings.

One of two last start winners drawn in the race, Judd (Ultimate Falcon), for trainer Lynn Beaton, has a handy record of five victories from his thirteen starts to date.

Judd, which has a career best 1.58.5 mile rate beside his name, is drawn in barrier six.

Finishing in the top three in all of his eighteen starts to date, Stanbesideme (Village Jasper) for Southport trainer John Soppa, is drawn in alley seven.

Stanbesideme placed in both the heat and final of the Chokin Championship at Menangle in November last year.

In the final, he finished third to Karloo Kix in a mile rate of 1.54.4.

The second of two runners for the Shannon Price stable is drawn the inside second row, American Legend (American Ideal).

American Legend has only started three times to date which includes two seconds and a victory at his first.

Passionate Fella (Presidential Ball), the second of two last start winners, has also drawn the second row, outside in barrier nine.

The Vicki Rasmussen trained pacer is unbeaten in two starts on Australian soil since being brought over as a fitting Christmas gift on the 21st of December 2011, from New Zealand. The two races included a convincing 3 metre victory last Saturday at Albion Park, when starting a $2.10 favourite.

Passionate Fella has a career best 1.56.6 mile beside his name and boasts victories over four of the other competitors in just his last two races from only seven lifetime starts.

Racing is scheduled to start at 5.10pm and despite the deluge being suffered across south east Queensland, the track is holding up well.

Tuesday’s meeting at Albion Park was abandoned due to the combination of a king tide and un-relenting rain, which wouldn’t have prevented racing if it wasn’t for the extensive flooding of all access points to the facility, road blocked by Police.

A low tide predicted for Saturday night of a full two metres difference to Tuesday’s peak should give the racing community confidence in the go ahead at Albion Park for the Metropolitan meeting.

Action will wrap up at 8.40pm with the Termidor Trotters Handicap.
